PORTLAND, Maine — Chris Brown from Bull Moose stopped by the 207 studio with a list of new releases this month at Bull Moose. From books to vinyl, there’s something for everyone.
Percival Everett – "James: A Novel" (hardcover book)
"James: A Novel" is getting rave reviews. It is a retelling of "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" from Huck’s travel companion, Jim’s, perspective. Percival Everett wrote "Erasure" on which last year’s acclaimed film "American Fiction" was based. Like Mark Twain, Mr. Everett is a brilliant satirist.
Pete Jolly – "Seasons" (vinyl LP only; no CD)
"Seasons" is one of those obscure instrumental albums that you might have not heard of unless you are a hip-hop producer. This is the first vinyl reissue since 1971. It alternates between being weirdly groovy and beautifully weird. Herb Alpert produced it.
Mary McGlory and Sylvia Saunders – "The Other Fab Four: The Remarkable True Story of The Liverbirds, Britain’s First Female Rock Band" (hardcover book)
The Liverbirds, whose name was at least as good a pun as "Beatles," was an all-female rock band from Liverpool. They were another of those bands that went back and forth between Liverpool and Hamburg playing hits by Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. It’s a really interesting time in rock and roll history, and obviously, their experience was different to most bands.
FLETCHER – "In Search of the Antidote" (LP, CD)
Fletcher is a pop-rock singer, who excels in writing confessional songs about her broken relationships.
