PORTLAND, Maine — Summer-like temperatures are out in full force this week, which means you might be switching up your digs.
Before you grab that cute pair of shoes or sky-high heels, there are a few things to keep in mind. Dr. Allyson Coffin, our local chiropractor and wellness expert, she stopped by the 207 studio to talk about summer footwear do's and don'ts an shared a few exercises to help alleviate foot pain.
"The reason [foot pain] happens more in the summer is because shoes in the winter cover your entire foot... and you at least have one of your arches supported," Dr. Coffin said. "When you get [no support], then you get pain."
Dr. Coffin explained our feet are unique because they have three arches. This means the shoes you wear should be supporting all three to help with balance and support. Otherwise, Coffin explained it won't be long before you start experiencing discomfort.
There are a few stretches and exercises you can do at home to help prevent and treat foot pain. Check out the segment above for a full demonstration.
