PORTLAND, Maine — July is here, and so are new releases at Bull Moose.
Here's a quick snapshot from Chris Brown:
Visions of Atlantis – Pirates II: Armada – CD, LP
"Visions of Atlantis are an Austrian symphonic metal band. As might be obvious, this is their second album about Pirates. They have two lead singers, one male and one female. Both sing in a semi-operatic style. Their music is highly orchestrated, either with real strings, synths, or both. The guitars and drums are pure metal. The songs themselves are fairly complex, with soaring catchy choruses that absolutely are arena worthy. If you think you might like this, you will love it."
The Boy and the Heron – Blu-ray, 4K UHD
"The Boy and The Heron is Hayo Miyazaki’s latest film. It won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature this March. In the film, a boy and his industrialist father move to the country after his mother dies in WWII. The boy and an odd heron go on a fantastic journey in search of the boy’s mother. The animation is inventive and beautiful, like all Miyazaki films. In case you have never seen one of his films, be prepared to be moved in a more complex way than something like Frozen or Toy Story."
Vince Guaraldi – It Was a Short Summer, Charlie Brown soundtrack – CD, LP
"The last few years have brought a steady stream of Guaraldi's soundtracks to Peanuts specials. This is the one where Lucy signs everyone up for summer camp. It's nice to be able to hear the music without the dialogue, especially if you want to hear the variety of ways Guaraldi’s band plays his themes. This edition includes six new cues. The first vinyl edition sold out immediately this Record Store Day. Here is another chance to get the vinyl. It’s now available on CD for people who prefer CDs."
Civil War – Blu-ray, 4K UHD
"Several photojournalists make their way to Washington, D.C. during a present-day civil war. The cause of the war is vague, which allows us to sidestep 2024 politics. Even so, it is a much more intense watch than it would be if it were set somewhere else. It’s getting great reviews, but I’m going to turn my catchphrase around. If you think this might not be for you, it isn’t."
