This remote island is home to 2 things: Purple flowers and polar bears

Maine photographer Jeremy Grant can add a new title to his resume: Certified Polar Bear Guard.

PORTLAND, Maine — Maine photographer Jeremy Grant is known for capturing the Maine wilderness and the stories that inhabit it.

Grant is also a certified polar bear guard.

What is that? Think of them as a liaison for those daring enough to encounter the cold and the polar bears.

Last summer, that certification allowed him to get up close and personal with wildlife on an island off of Canada. Grant used drones and other cameras to capture the polar bears in their natural habitat.

"We are on this remote island. It just blooms with these beautiful purple flowers which seems like a fairytale," Grant said. "You know the narrative that I've always seen of polar bears, they're running around in the snow, they're drinking Coca-Cola, you know, you never think about them running around in a field of flowers so when you see it, it feels so unreal."
