PORTLAND, Maine — David Costello faces an unusual challenge for a political candidate. Although he’s the Democratic nominee in the U.S. Senate race in Maine, the party has given him little support and paid him scant attention.
This is not unexpected. Going into the contest, Costello knew that most Democrats in Maine would be more than happy to see Angus King sent back to Washington for a third term. An independent, King caucuses with the Democrats in the Senate and on most issues is much closer to them than to Republicans.
Costello is running on a platform of reform. Among his proposals: eliminating the filibuster in the Senate, abolishing the electoral college, establishing term limits for Supreme Court justices, and making it easier to amend the Constitution.
Costello sat down with us to talk about how the government could pay for some of his expensive proposals, why it’s so hard to change Congress, and how he’d address the high cost of living. Watch our interview to learn more.
