The 207 interview: Maine Congressman Jared Golden

Can tariffs bring back manufacturing jobs? Golden believes they can.

PORTLAND, Maine — For the fourth time in his four campaigns for Congress, Democrat Jared Golden finds himself in a tough, close race in one of the small number of contests that will decide which party ends up controlling the House of Representatives.

His opponent is Republican Austin Theriault, a former race car driver and a one-term state representative from Fort Kent. They’re battling to represent the sprawling second district, the largest one east of the Mississippi.

Here’s a quick look at Golden.

Residence: Lewiston.

Work experience: Served in the U.S. Marines including combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Worked for Senator Susan Collins on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Political experience: Elected to the Maine House of Representatives from Lewiston in 2014. Re-elected in 2016. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018, 2020 and 2022.

Golden joined us on 207 and talked about his support of tariffs, why he thinks they can help bring back manufacturing jobs, and how to strengthen bipartisanship in Washington. Watch our interview to learn more.
