PORTLAND, Maine — For the fourth time in his four campaigns for Congress, Democrat Jared Golden finds himself in a tough, close race in one of the small number of contests that will decide which party ends up controlling the House of Representatives.
His opponent is Republican Austin Theriault, a former race car driver and a one-term state representative from Fort Kent. They’re battling to represent the sprawling second district, the largest one east of the Mississippi.
Here’s a quick look at Golden.
Residence: Lewiston.
Work experience: Served in the U.S. Marines including combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Worked for Senator Susan Collins on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
Political experience: Elected to the Maine House of Representatives from Lewiston in 2014. Re-elected in 2016. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018, 2020 and 2022.
