Fallen Navy SEAL from Maine remembered two years after his death

People in Falmouth celebrated Navy SEAL Kyle Milliken for his life and service on Sunday. Milliken was killed in Somalia by a terrorist group in 2017.

FALMOUTH, Maine — People in Falmouth celebrated the life of Navy SEAL Kyle Milliken who was killed in Somalia a year ago during an operation against a terrorist group. 

Milliken was a decorated 15-year veteran and senior chief special warfare operator from Falmouth. He was killed on May 5, 2017, after his team came under fire from al-Shabab fighters. Milliken was killed and two others were injured.

On Sunday, May 19, people gathered to thank Milliken and remember him as a hero during a 5k and 10k running event. 

"The mood was a perfect mix of excitement, respect, and appreciation stirred with the expected undertone of somber reflection that was appropriate, needed and mixed in just right to shed a tear and a smile in the same moment. We were thankful to be part of it and honor this man who gave everything for us to have everything this country has to offer us all," according to Falmouth Police Facebook post. 

The day was kicked off with one of Kyle's closest friends, a SEAL team colleague, nailing a parachute landing. The Falmouth Police also had commemorative plates made for the day and presented them to Milliken's mother at the end of the day.  

Milliken was buried at Arlington National Cemetery. He was 28-years-old whne he died.
