UPDATE: L.L. Bean closing all U.S. stores, Brunswick manufacturing location due to coronavirus concerns

This is the first time in history that the Flagship stores in Freeport will close for more than 24 hours

MAINE, USA — L.L. Bean has closed its Brunswick Manufacturing location for 24 hours Tuesday to deep clean, L.L. Bean spokesperson Carolyn Beem told NEWS CENTER Maine.

Beam said there are no confirmed cases of the coronavirus, COVID-19 at L.L. Bean, but one employee at one of the facilities is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19. That employee has not been at the facility for six days.

"We have activated response measures in this facility and continue to follow all CDC protocols in relation to social interactions...," Beam said in a statement. "This employee is currently at home and in mandatory self-quarantine. Co-workers who were in direct contact with this employee have been notified. None of those individuals are exhibiting symptoms at this time."

Editor’s note: You are starting to hear the term ‘flattening the curve’ as a way to stem the tide of coronavirus cases. The above video explains what that means.

On Monday, L.L. Bean announced it is closing all U.S. retail locations through March 29 out of precaution for the spread of coronavirus, COVID-19, L.L. Bean President and CEO Steve Smith said in a press release Monday.

This includes the Flagship stores in Freeport, marking only the fifth time in our company’s history that this location will close, and the first time ever for more than 24 hours.

All store employees will receive pay and benefits during the closure.

Customers can still buy products on llbean.com or by phone at 1-800-441-5713.

"Rest assured, our teams working across operations – including our home agent service representatives – are following strict CDC guidelines, including practicing safe working distances and adhering to additional cleaning protocols," Smith said in the release.
