BANGOR, Maine — A 31-year-old man is charged with Class C theft based on prior convictions for an alleged theft of N95 respirator masks from Bangor City Hall, where he was working a job.
The respirator masks are at a premium amid the coronavirus pandemic, as they're crucial pieces of protection for hospital workers treating COVID-19 patients.
According to the Bangor Police Department, it was reported Thursday morning that about 80 N95 facial masks, that had been allocated for City of Bangor first responders, were missing.
Jonathan McCue worked for a company hired by the city of Bangor to clean windows. According to the Penobscot County District Attorney's Office, he was not directly hired by the City of Bangor.
McCue is currently being held without bail at the Penobscot County Jail. In a court appearance Friday, his bail was set at $500 and the judge said he is not allowed to go to Bangor City Hall.
