SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — The Jackson Lab (JAX) opened a two-day biomedical innovation and technology conference Tuesday, bringing together some of the state's brightest minds when it comes to fighting diseases.
Panelists, including members of the National Institutes of Health, area hospitals, and local government agencies, broke down advancements in areas like addiction, bioengineering human cells, and endometriosis—a disease impacting one-in-10 women.
After discussing "precision cancer treatment," Dr. Jens Rueter, JAX chief medical officer told NEWS CENTER Maine the work done in their lab has led to more cures.
"Now we’re in this era of precision oncology, where we can actually develop very targeted and specific therapies," Rueter said. "And we identify that over time, we identify more and more of these targets that make it more and more—make cancer sub-types more curable."
NEWS CENTER Maine sponsored the conference, which also welcomed area high school and college students.
