Recall on ground beef purchased at Hannaford in Damariscotta

Hannaford supermarket in Damariscotta has recalled ground beef sold on Dec. 3 because it “may contain foreign material.”

DAMARISCOTTA, Maine — Hannaford Supermarkets sent out a press release Monday afternoon to alert the public about a recall issued on ground beef sold in their Damariscotta store.

Located at 469 Main St., the Damariscotta Hannaford is recalling its Hannaford brand 81% lean ground beef product, which may have been purchased by customers between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, with a sell-by date of Dec. 5. The meat is being recalled for possibly containing "foreign material," according to the news release. 

The store is advising customers to check their storage and freezer areas for this product and instructing them not to eat it. The product or its packaging may be returned for a full refund, the release states. 

This recall is only for the Damariscotta location and no injuries or illnesses have been reported, according to the release.
