BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor resource center handed out about 300 gently used blankets and sleeping bags to those in need Monday in Bangor.
Health Equity Alliance (HEAL) provides services to Maine’s LGBTQ community and anyone living with HIV, AIDS or drug addiction.
HEAL received a large donation of blankets from Colby College.
Andrea Littlefield, HEAL's director, says being warm is a basic need and can help those struggling with addiction.
"We have a lot of people that live on couches or live in the rough and on a cold night when they can't go to the homeless shelter it's tough," Littlefield said. "So, the most we can do to help people is what we try."
Additionally, HEAL was offering coffee and food for people who wanted it.
