AUBURN, Maine — A program run by the Good Shepherd Foodbank will continue, after all.
Mainers Feeding Mainers supplies fresh, local produce from more than 70 Maine farmers to people in need.
Last year alone they distributed two million pounds of produce.
However, funding the program became a concern.
In 2016, the legislature passed a law to fund the program for three years through a state appropriation from the Fund for a Healthy Maine. That $3 million in funding was set to run out last month.
The legislature has now approved $2 million which will provide funding for two more years. According to the Good Shepherd Food Bank, the funding will be administered by the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.
