Flash Flood Watches have been issued for Wednesday night for central and southern Maine until 7 a.m. Thursday, August 8.
But what does that even mean? And what's the difference between a Flash Flood Watch and a Flash Flood Warning? Which is worse? So glad you asked.
A watch simply means you should keep in mind that flooding could become an issue -- maybe. A warning means that flooding is either already happening or is about to start very soon.
In that sense, you could probably say a warning is 'worse'.
We have already had rain today and are expected to get much more overnight tonight, so the National Weather Service issues these watches to warn us about potential dangers.
Expect torrential downpours overnight and check in with your favorite weather team for updates on flooding if you have to travel.
And NEVER drive through a flooded road. Please.
