HAMPDEN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The kids are gone on vacation, and the adults came to play at Hampden Academy today.
Over two hundred drivers came to the school for a Bus Driver Rodeo.
The event happens all over the state in different districts throughout the week.
Bus drivers arrived bright and early for breakfast before the competitions began.
They had to pass a pre-ride bus check, drive through thin lines of cones, make difficult turns, and several other driving competitions.
The winners will advance to a regional competition - with one driver from the state making it to nationals.
The afternoon is complete with courses to re-train and refresh drivers.
It was a chance for the drivers to connect, especially about what they love about their jobs.
Sherry Bourgoin, a driver of 27 years from Lee said that “it's fun to meet other drivers and talk about their day.” And her favorite part of her job is “greeting the kids and seeing them, especially the first day seeing how they grew over the summer.”
Today's event wraps up at 3.
