FARMINGTON (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- The allure of home was too strong to keep the UMF President in Maine.

University of Maine System Chancellor James Page broke the news on Tuesday about Kate Foster's departure from the Farmington campus to assume the presidency of The College of New Jersey.

Since beginning her tenure at the University of Maine at Farmington in 2012, Foster took steps to stabilize enrollment, renovate facilities and improve academic integration across campuses in the UMaine System.

Foster is a New Jersey native. In an open letter to the UMF community, she explained how those roots figured into her decision to leave:

Many would understand the strong tug to new opportunity, but Mainers especially will appreciate the powerful pull to home.

Foster has until the end of June to wrap up her work at UMF while work begins to find her replacement. Students and staff can offer their input about the search to Chancellor Page when he visits Farmington on April 4. Page said a transitional leadership plan will be in place by the end of the semester.
