BATH, Maine — A woman who caused a car crash that killed a couple from Woolwich, and injured children, including her own, is going to prison for six years.
Danielle Ward pleaded guilty to manslaughter, DUI, and endangering the welfare of the six children who were in the car with her.
According to court testimony, Ward had opioids, sedatives, and other drugs in her system on the night of the crash. Some of the children were injured in the head-on collision.
The couple in the other car, Robert and Carolyn Martin, were killed.
Baroody said Ward’s “shocking” and “appalling” criminal history includes three prior convictions for operating under the influence of drugs within eight years — all with young children in the car and one that caused a head-on collision — and one conviction for driving to endanger. She was twice convicted of assault, including once when she spit in the face of a police officer.
