COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Court documents in the criminal case against a man who filmed himself traveling at speeds exceeding 170 miles per hour reveal the steps Colorado State Patrol took to identify the YouTuber who uploaded video of his traffic crimes.
The YouTuber, identified as Rendon Dietzmann, 32, of Texas, uploaded a video last year that was titled “...driving from Colorado Springs to Denver in 20 minutes.” The video shows Dietzmann traveling up to 173 mph on a motorcycle as he darts between numerous drivers while heading north on Interstate 25.
The documents are part of the misdemeanor case against Dietzmann, who is wanted in Colorado on seven charges, including menacing and reckless endangerment.
The affidavit, authored by a Colorado State Patrol investigator, describes how the agency used surveillance and security camera footage from a car wash and convenience store near where Dietzmann began recording his YouTube video on September 28, 2023.

According to the affidavit, Dietzmann is seen on surveillance footage using the same purple and white motorcycle seen on his YouTube video when he purchased gas and then a Red Bull inside an Exxon station on Garden of the Gods Road in Colorado Springs.
“In the video, the rider later removed his helmet and entered the store," the affidavit says. "As the white male entered the store, he walked next to the height measurement stickers on the door frame. The rider’s height appeared to be at least 6’ 3"."
The footage was then used to compare Dietzmann’s image to a police body-worn camera footage from a prior traffic stop in Denton, Texas, in June 2022.
“The traffic stop video clearly showed Mr. Dietzmann as the same person in the Exxon gas station video from 9/28/2023,” the investigator wrote.
The investigator noted Dietzmann stands at 6-foot-4, according to his driver's license.
The affidavit also reveals investigators obtained a search warrant for cellphone data on Sept. 28, 2023, that showed Dietzmann’s cellphone “was active on the cellular phone towers from Colorado Springs to Denver."
The documents also refers to drivers who called to complain about Dietzmann’s dangerous driving, including a woman who told investigators “she feared for the safety of others traveling on the highway.”
