York County deputy shoots man accused of domestic violence terrorizing

A man accused of domestic violence terrorizing has been injured after a deputy shot him while an arrest warrant was being served Wednesday.

YORK, Maine — A man accused of domestic violence terrorizing is injured after a York County deputy shot him Wednesday while an arrest warrant was being served.

Shortly after 11 a.m., the Southern Maine Special Response Team, made up of several law enforcement departments in southern Maine, tried to serve an arrest warrant for domestic violence terrorizing and violations of conditions of release at a York home on Mill Lane, York police said in a news release.

While law enforcement attempted to serve the warrant, Nicholas Goodwin reportedly failed to follow commands and "brandished a firearm," according to the release.

"When Mr. Goodwin brandished the firearm, he was shot by York County Deputy Alex Markellos," the release stated.

Police said Goodwin was treated immediately on the scene by tactical medics' part of the warrant team.

Goodwin was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital where he remains for treatment.

"No officers were injured during the interaction," police said.

Police added there is no ongoing threat to the public.

"As with any officer-involved shooting the Attorney General’s Office has been contacted and will be investigating the incident. Any further inquiries should be directed to the Attorney General's Office," the release said.

No additional details were released.
