DRESDEN, Maine — Police arrested a woman in Dresden on Friday after she allegedly stole a car and set fire to it early Thursday morning.
Authorities discovered the vehicle engulfed in flames around 7:20 a.m. off Alexander Road in Dresden on Thursday, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.
The state fire marshal's office determined the fire was intentionally set. Further investigation led to the arrest of 28-year-old Stephanie Lamoreau, the release stated. Lamoreau is believed to be unhoused, Moss said.
Police arrested her on Warren Avenue in Dresden on Friday for charges of arson, aggravated criminal mischief, and unauthorized use of property.
Moss said Lamoreau took the vehicle from an associate of hers without permission.
Lamoreau was taken to the Two Bridges Jail in Wiscasset where her bail was set at $5,000 cash.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and Gardiner Police Department assisted in the investigation.
No further information was available Friday afternoon.
