ROCKLAND, Maine — A woman is facing charges after allegedly stealing a canoe and damaging property late Monday night in Rockland.
At about 10:30 p.m. Monday, police responded to a report about a woman who had reportedly damaged property and stolen a canoe near the Rockland Public Landing, Rockland police said on social media.
Officers located the woman, identified as 30-year-old Sierra McDonald, just offshore in the stolen canoe, according to a Facebook post.
"While speaking to the woman from shore, she entered the water, stripped off all her clothing and boarded a nearby lobster boat, attempting to untie the vessel," police said in the post.
Based on police observations and the woman's statements, officers and Rockland Fire & EMS took the woman into protective custody. She was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center for an evaluation, police said.
On Tuesday morning, significant damage to a building and several vehicles was discovered in Rockland's South End.
"Multiple windows were found smashed out by rocks and the total damage is estimated to be near $10,000," the post stated.
Police said evidence was found that linked the damage to McDonald.
Upon being released from the hospital, police took McDonald into custody and she was charged with theft, criminal mischief, aggravated criminal mischief, and violation of conditions of release.
