Windham Police looking for stabbing suspect

Jayce Segler is considered armed and should not be approached.

WINDHAM, Maine — Windham Police are continuing to search for Jayce Segler, 24, as the man they are looking for in connection with a stabbing in Windham.

For the second day, the Manchester Elementary School was placed on lockout because of its proximity to a home where police say a violent attack took place Thursday afternoon.

Police say Segler assaulted two people inside this residence in the 82nd block of Emerson Drive in the Collins Pond neighborhood, located behind the school.

A woman was stabbed multiple times and a man was assaulted. The woman who was not identified did not suffer any life-threatening injuries and was treated at the hospital.  Along with the assistance of Maine State Police, detectives searched for Segler in the North Windham area but came up empty-handed Thursday night.

With Segler still at large, Windham School officials decided to hold classes Friday, but Superintendent Chris Howell says it was a tough call.

"We are concerned about student safety ... we want to make sure we are always being cautious. Windham police have been great with sharing information. They have been ok with us being in session," Chris Howell, Windham Superintendent said.

The exterior doors to the school were locked throughout the day, also students were not allowed outside for recess. One parent I spoke to says the precautions gave her peace of mind that her child was safe.

Extra police officers were assigned to the school. Police cruisers were spotted near the campus throughout the day.

Howell says students practice lockout drills on a regular basis -- parents are keeping up to date through emails and other notifications.  Police meanwhile are continuing to look for Segler.  His profile on social media says he lives in the Bangor area -- but authorities are not disclosing any information -- including any connection between Segler and the victims.

Windham police tell NEWS CENTER Maine they will continue to search for Segler 'until they find him.'

Police say Segler is African American and likely carrying a backpack.

He may be armed so do not approach him - call police with any information.
