WESTBROOK, Maine — A Westbrook man is facing several charges after being arrested Monday following an hours-long standoff.
In a social media post Tuesday, Westbrook police said Corey Faulkner, 38, has been charged with the following:
- Aggravated domestic violence assault
- Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person
- Obstructing the report of a crime
- Creating a police standoff
Faulkner was taken to the Cumberland County Jail, where he was being held on $25,000 cash bail, the release stated.
Shortly after 8 a.m. Monday, public safety received a 911 call reporting a woman in need of help due to a domestic disturbance at a home at 36 Seavey St. in Westbrook.
Westbrook police said that when they located the woman they determined she was the victim of a serious domestic violence assault, according to the release. The officer further learned that the suspect was still inside the home and reportedly armed with a gun, police said.
Additional Westbrook police officers were called in to set up a perimeter and block off the neighborhood. Officers attempted to speak with the suspect and urge him to surrender, but the suspect refused and a standoff ensued, according to police. At that point, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Emergency Services Unit responded and took over the scene with the assistance of the York County Sheriff's Office.
During the standoff, Westbrook detectives applied for and were granted an arrest warrant for Faulkner, along with a search warrant for the home, according to the release.
Around 4:30 p.m., after a more than eight-hour standoff, Faulkner was taken into custody. No shots were fired, police said.
Detectives searched the home after the suspect's arrest and found a loaded gun, the release stated.
The victim was taken to the hospital for her injuries, but she was later released, police said. Nobody else was injured in the incident, according to the release.
