PORTLAND, Maine — A man from Westbrook was sentenced Tuesday to 18 years in prison for sexually exploiting a child in 2019 and an unrelated drug offense.

Rayevon Deschambault, 28, of Westbrook was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Portland to 216 months in prison followed by 10 years of supervised release, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Maine

In August 2019, Deschambault "sexually abused a 14-year-old victim for the purpose of creating child sexual abuse material," the release stated. Investigators reportedly seized his cell phone after the videos produced were discovered.

"In sentencing Deschambault, Judge Woodcock noted that videorecording of sexually exploitative acts 'places this crime at a different level' because 'videotaping is a potentially permanent visual record of the crime,'" according to the release.

Deschambault will serve a 27-month concurrent sentence for distributing cocaine base to a confidential informant also in August 2019. He pleaded guilty March 30, 2023.

The case was investigated by the FBI and Portland Police Department, with assistance from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
