BANGOR, Maine — A man from the Waterville area faces up to life in prison and up to a $10 million fine after being found guilty of drug charges in court Wednesday.

Victor Soto Sanchez, 39, was found guilty of fentanyl and cocaine possession with intent to distribute after a two-day trial in U.S. District Court in Bangor, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Maine.

In Nov. 2021, the Waterville Police Department executed a search warrant at Soto Sanchez's home after a three-week-long investigation concerning a large-scale drug trafficking investigation, the release said. Police reportedly found roughly five pounds of fentanyl in pill and powder form, nearly five pounds of cocaine, and more than $5,000 in cash and multiple firearms, according to evidence presented during the trial.

The estimated street value of drugs seized was estimated at more than $400,000, the release said.

Soto Sanchez now faces between 10 years and life in prison, and a $10 million fine. He also faces five years of supervised release.

This investigation was conducted by the Waterville Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations, the release said. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosive and Maine State Police assisted in this case.
