WATERBORO, Maine — A Waterboro man is facing charges after illegally possessing several firearms, according to law enforcement officials.

At about midnight Friday, the York County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a disturbance at a home on Fairview Drive in Waterboro, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered 50-year-old Steven Drew of Waterboro was in possession of several firearms. Drew is prohibited from owning or possessing firearms, according to the release.

"When deputies attempted to arrest Drew, he assaulted one of the deputies and threatened to kill them," the release stated. "The deputy was not injured."

Drew was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, assault on a law enforcement officer, and refusing to submit to arrest or detention, deputies said. He was taken to the York County Jail and given a $2,500 cash bail.

Drew remains in custody and made an initial court appearance Friday.
