Opening statements delayed for Washington County murder trial, judge says

Kimberly Neptune was found dead in her home last April after being stabbed 484 times. Suspects Donnel Dana and Kailie Brackett were both charged with murder.

MACHIAS, Maine — Opening statements for the State of Maine vs. Donnel Dana and Kailie Brackett trials were delayed Thursday after a Washington County judge said there were some new developments in the case.

Dana and Brackett were both charged with the murder of 43-year-old Kimberly Neptune

Neptune was found dead in her home last April. An autopsy report revealed that she was stabbed 484 times.

Jury selections began Wednesday and were finalized in court Thursday, but the judge said he needs to meet with attorneys to sort through new information before opening statements reconvene.

The judge did not specify what the new developments in the trial were, but that opening statements for the trial would resume at 9 a.m. Friday.
