PORTLAND, Maine — A man from Vassalboro has been charged with manslaughter in connection with a campfire injury last spring that resulted in the death of a woman from Albion.
Liza Bragg, 46, suffered serious burn injuries when she was standing next to a campfire while it was being lit the night of May 5, 2023, at D&R Campground in China, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release back in May.
Emergency officials were called to the location to help Bragg, who was brought to a local hospital before she was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she died from her injuries.
The incident was investigated by the Maine fire marshal's office.
Following the investigation, 31-year-old Travis Mitchell of Vassalboro was arrested Thursday morning and charged with manslaughter, Moss said Friday in an updated release.
Mitchell was indicted by a Kennebec County Grand Jury the day of his arrest for his apparent role in Bragg's death.
Mitchell was brought to the Kennebec County Correctional Facility in Augusta but has posted bail.
His first court appearance is scheduled for April 22.
