ORONO, Maine — A Canadian man is facing charges following a burglary Sunday morning at the University of Maine's Alfond Sports Arena.

At about 8:17 a.m., UMaine police arrested 56-year-old Steven Vanroboys of Thamesville, Ontario, Canada. He was charged with Class C felony burglary, the University of Maine Police Department (UMPD) said Tuesday in a news release.

Officer Jamey Dover noticed a vehicle parked outside the Alfond Arena on Sunday morning. That same vehicle was reported to UMPD the day before for suspicious activity at the arena, according to the release.

Upon investigation, Officer Dover discovered an unlocked door at the Alfond Arena and found Vanroboys inside the venue stealing various items, the release stated.

Vanroboys was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and has since been released on $1,000 cash bail.

The Orono Police Department assisted in this incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
