PORTLAND, Maine — Two men from out-of-state were charged Wednesday in connection with robberies at two Maine post offices in January.

The two men from the New York City metro area reportedly also robbed two U.S. Postal Service workers at knife-point, a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Maine said.

A federal grand jury charged 30-year-old Winston McLeod of Orange, New Jersey, and 30-year-old Lance Funderburk of Brooklyn, New York, in "a five-count indictment on March 20, 2024, charging each with two robberies, two burglaries, and participating in the overall conspiracy," the release stated.

Indictment and court records show that within a one-week period in January, McLeod and Funderburk broke into the Paris and North Monmouth post offices.

The pair stole money order printers, mail, computers, post office box keys, and other items, according to the release. McLeod and Funderburk are also accused of robbing two Lewiston postal carriers on Jan. 20 where they reportedly threatened to stab them with a knife unless they handed over their postal keys.

"If convicted, the men face up to 25 years imprisonment on each of the two robbery counts, up to five years imprisonment on each of the two burglary counts, and up to five years on the conspiracy count," the release stated. "They also face up to five years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000 on each count of conviction."

This case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Safe Streets Task Force and police departments from Rumford, Lewiston, Paris, and Monmouth.

"An indictment is merely an allegation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law," the release said.
