TEMPLE, Maine — A man is facing multiple charges after an incident in Temple that lasted Thursday night into Friday morning.
The standoff began around 4 p.m. Thursday after the Franklin County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a home on Day Mountain Road, the sheriff's office said in a release Friday.
Elliot Barden, 42, had allegedly tried to set the home on fire and fired a weapon into the air, according to the release. The victim told detectives Barden had weapons and had made threats toward law enforcement, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies surrounded the home and called out to the suspect without answer before the Maine State Police Tactical Team was called in to assist. Officials entered the residence around 4 a.m. Friday and found that the suspect was not there.
Around 8:20 a.m. Friday, Sgt. Ryan Close of the sheriff's office received information that a person matching the suspect's description was walking on Intervale Road in Temple, according to the release. Officials responded to the area, located the man, and identified him as Barden, the sheriff's office said.
Barden was arrested on a temporary warrant for criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and arson. He was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital for a medical evaluation before being taken to jail, the release stated.
