MAINE, USA — The suspect in multiple armed robberies in southern Maine is now in custody, according to police.
Just after noon on Sunday, Maine State Police said it and the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, along with other agencies, were investigating three armed robberies in church parking lots in the towns of Parsonsfield, Cornish, and Baldwin.
Police described the suspect and warned the public not to approach him, advising to immediately call 911 with any information.
Minutes later, police said the suspect was in custody.
Maine State Police said in a news release Sunday afternoon 27-year-old Connor McGlone of Auburn, previously of New Hampshire, was taken into custody.
Just after 10 a.m., a woman reportedly called 911 from the parking lot of a Parsonsfield church on Federal Road saying a male had threatened to kill her and referenced a firearm. The male drove off in a 2011 silver Subaru, police said.
Roughly a half hour later, a person in Cornish flagged police down and reported the suspect had "pulled a gun on him" and demanded his wallet in the parking lot of a church located on Main Street in the town, according to state police.
Then, at approximately 11:20 a.m., state police said "the suspect entered the church located at 1006 Pequawket Trail in Baldwin, took money from the offering plate, and grabbed a woman’s purse before fleeing the church without displaying the firearm."
Police said they located the suspect's vehicle near Bliss Road in Baldwin at approximately 11:45 a.m., and a pursuit followed, leading onto Route 107. During the pursuit, the suspect was seen waving a firearm inside his vehicle and also "intentionally swerving" his vehicle at other cars, police said.
The suspect's vehicle went off the roadway and into a field in the area of Bridgton Hospital after police said they utilized a PIT maneuver; he fled on foot and was quickly apprehended.
Law enforcement identified the male as McGlone, and he was brought to Bridgton Hospital. He is expected to be booked into York County Jail.
McGlone had three active warrants for robbery and felony at the time of the incident, police said, and is now facing two additional robbery charges. Additional charges are expected.
The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, Maine State Police, and Bridgton police assisted with the investigation.
Those who may have had close contact with McGlone's vehicle while driving Sunday are asked to contact Maine State Police Sgt. Dan Hanson at 207-624-7076.
