PRENTISS, Maine — Two people have been arrested following a nearly seven-hour standoff in Prentiss in connection with a shooting incident in Springfield on Wednesday.
According to a news release from the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, new information was obtained regarding the location of 45-year-old Matthew Vandine of Molunkis and 32-year-old Noel Wilson following a shooting in Springfield where one man was believed to have been shot.
On Wednesday, officials responded around 11:35 p.m. to a home on Ghost Road for the reported shooting, the sheriff's office said in a release Thursday.
Vandine was believed to have been involved, and witnesses told the sheriff's office he and Wilson fled the home in a vehicle, the Thursday release stated.
After receiving new information on Saturday, sheriff's deputies, special response team members, and the Maine State Police Tactical Team reportedly responded to a Tar Ridge Road home in Prentiss, and immediate neighbors sheltered in place.
"The confirmed information indicated the couple were alone in the home and there was a weapon inside," the sheriff's office said in the release. "Several attempts were made to safely contact the couple but no response was received."
Both Vandine and Wilson came out of the residence and were taken into custody following a more than six-and-a-half hour standoff.
At the time of the standoff, Vandine was out on bail for another incident. The sheriff's office said he has a lengthy criminal history.
The Springfield Fire Department reportedly assisted the sheriff's office with the incident.
