SPRINGFIELD, Maine — A Springfield man is facing charges in connection with illegally possessing firearms.

At about 7 p.m. Monday, the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at a home on West Tucker Ridge Road in Springfield as part of an ongoing investigation, the sheriff's office said in a social media post.

James Elliott, 65, was arrested by deputies during a search of the home. Deputies said he lived alone and was taken into custody "without any critical incident."

He was charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, according to the post.

"Elliott's extensive criminal history includes felony convictions from the State of Kansas," the post stated.

Deputies said they are still investigating how Elliott became in possession of the several firearms located in his home.

The Maine State Police Tactical Team and Maine Warden Service assisted.
