BINGHAM, Maine — A Skowhegan man has turned himself in after allegedly driving over a woman in Bingham early Saturday morning after deputies said she tried to convince him not to drive intoxicated.
A Somerset County deputy responded to the area of Tyler Avenue in Bingham around 4:30 a.m., according to Somerset County Chief Deputy Michael Mitchell.
Ryan Mann, 43, of Skowhegan, reportedly drove to visit friends, a man and woman, in Bingham after allegedly having an argument with his girlfriend in Skowhegan. Mitchell said the couple had gone to bed but later woke to find Mann intoxicated and urinating on their furniture.
When Mann got into his vehicle to leave, the woman attempted to convince him not to drive, Mitchell said. Mann reportedly drove the vehicle backward while the passenger door remained open, trapping the woman and knocking her to the ground. Mitchell said the vehicle drove over her.
The woman suffered "serious injuries" and was brought to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan, then to a hospital in Portland, Mitchell said. He said he believed the woman suffered multiple pelvic fractures.
Mann spoke with a deputy on the phone around 6 p.m. Saturday night and turned himself in to law enforcement around 6:30 p.m. He was taken into custody and faces aggravated assault (Class B) and driving to endanger (Class C) felony charges, Mitchell said.
Driving to endanger is typically a Class D charge, but it was upgraded to Class C due to the woman's injuries.
Mitchell said Mann is already on probation for an unrelated crime, and his parole officer has placed him on a hold and does not have bail. If a judge reverses the hold, bail may be posted later, Mitchell said.
