Portland man charged with attempted murder after woman injured in shooting

Portland police found a woman on Portland Street suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm just before 3 a.m. Monday. A suspect was taken into custody.

PORTLAND, Maine — The Portland Police Department responded to reports of a shooting Monday morning on Portland Street and found a woman who had been shot in the arm.

Police arrived at the scene just before 3 a.m. to find a 42-year-old woman who was reportedly suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm, Portland Police Department spokesperson Brad Nadeau said in a Monday news release.

The victim was taken to Maine Medical Center with injuries not considered life-threatening, Nadeau said.

Less than an hour later, officers located the shooting suspect at his residence on High Street. The Special Reaction Team and Crisis Negotiators Team were called to assist with the incident. Officials acquired a search warrant for the residence and set up a secure perimeter, the release stated.

Suspect Randy Aron, 47, of Portland came out of the home nearly an hour later and was taken into custody by the Special Reaction Team. Aron was charged with aggravated attempted murder, elevated aggravated assault, and possession of firearms by prohibited persons, according to the release.

A firearm was recovered during the warrant execution, officials say.
