Sheriff's office investigates hit-and-run invovling pedestrian in Penobscot County

A pedestrian sustained minor injuries after being hit by a car that fled the scene in Charleston Sunday afternoon.

CHARLESTON, Maine — The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office is investigating a hit-and-run involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in Charleston on Sunday afternoon.

Deputies were dispatched to Bradford Road around 12:45 p.m. Sunday, for a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian, according to a Monday social media post by the sheriff's office.

The vehicle fled the scene, and the pedestrian sustained minor injuries, according to the post.

Following interviews with parties on the scene, deputies patrolled the area and located the suspect vehicle on Dover Road in Charleston.

Deputies identified the driver as Gary Smith Jr., 33, of Bradford. Smith was arrested on an outstanding failure to appear warrant and was also charged with failing to report a personal injury crash, a class D misdemeanor, the post stated.

The Charleston Fire Department and Mayo Ambulance also assisted with this incident.
