Mexico woman accused of threatening Rumford Dunkin' employees with a gun

The suspect was arrested at gunpoint following a standoff at her home in Mexico, police said.

RUMFORD, Maine — A woman from the town of Mexico is facing several charges after allegedly using a gun to threaten employees at the Dunkin' in Rumford.

The alleged incident happened Wednesday at the Dunkin' on Congress Street, Rumford police said in a social media post.

Rebecca Sims, 33, has been charged with felony criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and threatening display of a dangerous weapon, the post stated.

Employees told police that Sims walked up to the drive-thru window at closing time and asked to use a phone. When employees declined, Sims allegedly threatened them with a pistol.

Employees called 911, but the suspect took off before officers got there. The Maine State Police Tactical Team assisted in arresting Sims at gunpoint the next day, following a standoff at her home, according to the post.

Sims was taken to the Oxford County Jail before being transferred to the York County Jail. Her cash bail has been set at $1,000, according to police.

“This is a fine example of the community and police working together to help apprehend someone who posed a threat to public safety," Rumford Police Chief Tony Milligan stated. "Although traumatized by the incident, the employees’ quick actions likely prevented anyone from getting hurt or killed, and the cooperation of the provider of security video footage taken at a nearby establishment made it possible to quickly identify the suspect."

Rumford police were assisted by Mexico police, the Oxford County Sheriff's Office, and the Maine State Police Tactical Team.
