ROCKLAND, Maine — A man from South Thomaston has been charged in connection with an aggravated assault in Rockland.

Rockland police responded to a reported assault just after midnight Sunday, Rockland police said Monday in a news release. Witnesses told officers they saw a person get repeatedly kicked in the face, the release stated.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the alleged victim nearby and blood in the roadway. That person, whose identity has not been released, was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center to be treated for significant facial injuries, according to police.

Robert Barter, 60, of South Thomaston was detained on scene and charged with criminal threatening and felony aggravated assault, the release stated.

Officials said they also found a small amount of white powder on Barter, which could lead to further charges pending further testing.
