PORTLAND, Maine — A man is in custody on several charges in connection with a stabbing incident in Portland that left one man injured.
Just before 11:30 a.m. Monday, Portland police responded to a report of a stabbing in the area of Portland Street, according to a news release from the department.
A 36-year-old man was found lying on the ground with an apparent stab wound and was brought to Maine Medical Center with injuries not considered life-threatening, police said.
Police reportedly located the suspect, 33-year-old Eliot-James Nelson of Portland, a little more than an hour after the incident at 1 City Center where he was arrested after a brief struggle. He was brought to Maine Medical Center for "precautionary reasons" where police said Nelson kicked an officer.
Nelson faces multiple assault charges, refusal to submit to arrest or detention, and two counts of violating conditions of release.
