Portland police investigate shooting Thursday on St. John Street

Portland police responded to a shooting at Union Station Plaza around 10 p.m. on Jan. 4.

PORTLAND, Maine — Portland police responded to reports of a shooting late Thursday evening on St. John Street. 

Officers arrived at Union Station Plaza at 274 St. John St. at 10:10 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting, according to a press release from Portland police spokesperson Brad Nadeau. 

"Shortly thereafter, officers located a victim nearby," Nadeau said.

That person suffered gunshot injuries not considered life-threatening and was brought to Maine Medical Center for treatment, according to the release. 

Nadeau said the shooting is still under investigation as police follow leads on the case and said police do not believe there is any threat to the public.
