Seven kids detained in Portland following Thursday carjacking

On Nov. 9, a car owner parked on Auburn Street said a man entered his vehicle and pointed a gun at him, then drove away with his car.

PORTLAND, Maine — Police in Portland and South Portland have found the car that was stolen via carjacking at gunpoint Thursday evening at the Auburn Shopping Plaza.

In a press release, Portland's chief of police Mark Dubois said officers found the car around 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10. Dubois said during that process, officers detained seven juveniles and issued summons for several of them for the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

On Nov. 9, officers arrived at 91 Auburn St. at 4:53 p.m. to find a 75-year-old man who said he dropped off his wife to run an errand and temporarily parked in the fire lane and was waiting for her to return.

The car owner told police a man entered his vehicle and sat in the passenger seat and pointed a gun at him. The driver said he quickly exited the vehicle, and the suspect drove away. The suspect was described as a Black man in his 20s with clean-cut hair, according to an earlier press release.

Dubois said detectives will look over the car and other items, as the investigation continues. He said several more charges will likely be issued for the people involved in this crime.
