WILTON, Maine — An illegally cultivated marijuana facility was uncovered in Wilton on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Wilton police officers assisted investigators with the Maine Office of Cannabis Policy (OCP) in executing a routine follow-up inspection at a licensed marijuana cultivation facility at a Weld Road property, the Wilton Police Department said in a news release.
Wilton police said during the inspection they were given information that an individual had constructed another marijuana cultivation facility in a different building on the property, but it was not licensed.
Police then made contact with the owner of the property, and the owner came and escorted officers, OCP investigators, and Wilton Code Enforcement into the inside of the building.
"Inside the building, Wilton Police Department officers discovered the unlicensed marijuana cultivation facility which contained approximately 1211 illegally cultivated live marijuana plants and approximately 200 lb of illegally cultivated dried marijuana," the release stated. "The total value of the illegally cultivated marijuana discovered is estimated at $1,000,000."
Police then seized the illegally cultivated marijuana and it was destroyed as contraband, according to the release.
OCP investigators, along with Wilton Code Enforcement, the Wilton Fire Department, and Wilton Public Works assisted Wilton police in this investigation.
"The owner of the property on Weld Road has no connection to the internal operations of either the licensed or unlicensed marijuana cultivation facility," police said Wednesday. "The identity of the person or persons responsible for the unlicensed marijuana cultivation facility remains under investigation at this time."
Police said no further information will be released at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
