Man allegedly crashes vehicle into Portland home, flees the scene

Shortly before 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Portland police responded to a report of a crash at the corner of Ocean Avenue and Read Street.

PORTLAND, Maine — Police are searching for a man who allegedly fled the scene after crashing into a Portland home Tuesday evening.

Shortly before 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a report of a crash at the corner of Ocean Avenue and Read Street, the Portland Police Department said in a news release Wednesday.

"Witnesses stated a silver Mercedes drove from Ocean Avenue onto Read Street, where it clipped a car before crashing into the residence at 266 Ocean Avenue," the release stated. "Significant damage was done to the home, including damage to the foundation and structure."

Police said they are searching for a person of interest who was reportedly seen fleeing the vehicle involved in the crash. He is described as a 6-foot man with a slender build. At the time of the crash, the suspect was wearing a dark-colored hoodie, according to the release.

Investigators urge anyone who may have information that could assist in this case to call them at 207-874-8575.
