EDDINGTON, Maine — The Maine Department of Public Safety announced Tuesday afternoon they are in pursuit of a man in Eddington, whom they believe to be a threat to public safety, after a car chase.
On Tuesday at approximately 8:59 a.m. the Bangor Regional Communications Center received a report of a gray Ford Fusion operating erratically on Route 1A in Dedham, according to a news release.
The car was heading south on Rt. 1A towards Ellsworth, where Maine State Police reportedly located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The driver then made a U-turn and began traveling towards Holden. After failing to stop, the chase desisted and the driver continued speeding towards Holden, according to the release.
The Ford Fusion continued north on Route 46 to the intersection of Route 9 in Eddington, then traveled west on Route 9 towards Brewer. The driver pulled into a parking lot for Autoworks on Main Road in Eddington, where they hit a parked car, and took off on foot, the release stated.
The crash in the parking lot took down a powerline and shut down Route 9 in the area until Versant Power could repair it. Shortly after, Troopers received a report of a stolen GMC pickup that was taken from a residence in Eddington, a quarter mile from the scene at Autoworks, according to the release.
The owner of the truck was in his driveway and had been "physically pulled out" of his truck by the fleeing suspect, police said. The GMC owner was not injured.
Shortly after, a witness reported seeing the GMC pull into the parking lot of Peavey Manufacturing Company in Eddington, where the truck was recovered from the lot. Police disclosed a 2017 black Toyota Camry was then stolen from the same parking lot. The keys of the Toyota were left inside the vehicle, and police have yet to locate the suspect or the Camry, according to the release.
Maine State Police feel the suspect poses a threat to public safety at this time and are actively trying to identify him and take him into custody, the release stated.
