GARDINER, Maine — Police are seeking help from the public after a burglary and assault in Gardiner Monday evening.
At about 6:45 p.m. Monday, Gardiner police responded to a report of an ongoing burglary and assault in the area of Brunswick Avenue and Pierce Street, the Gardiner Police Department said in a Facebook post.
When police arrived at the scene, they searched the surrounding area for potential suspects but none were located, according to the release.
"Officers then met with the victim who sustained a head injury and possible broken ribs," the post said. "The victim explained that he was confronted by the suspect as he made entry into his basement. After the physical altercation, the suspect then fled the scene in an unknown direction."
A K9 was brought to the scene to conduct a K9 track, but it was unsuccessful. Police are now turning to the public for assistance in this case.
"If you live in the area mentioned above and may have some information that could help this case (i.e. camera footage, witnessed something unordinary around this time, or have heard anything that may be related) please contact Gardiner Police Officer Marston at 207-624-7076 extension 9," the post stated.
Maine State Police assisted Gardiner police at the scene.
