SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — An arrest has been made in connection with the death of a Freeport woman in South Portland this past September.
The body of 52-year-old Danielle Goodwin, of Freeport, was found off Clark's Pond Road in South Portland on the evening of Sept. 5, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.
Goodwin's death was determined to be a homicide by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, according to the release.
Over the past eight weeks, investigators with the Maine State Police, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and police departments from the towns of Portland, South Portland, and Saco gathered video evidence, conducted interviews, and executed search warrants in the greater Portland area, Moss said.
According to Moss, evidence gathered during the search warrants linked 65-year-old Gary Mariner, of West Newfield, to Goodwin's death.
Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Mariner on Thursday, charging him with murder. He was taken into arrest early Friday morning in Sacom Moss stated.
"Mariner is expected to make an initial appearance in York County District Court on Monday, November 6, 2023," the release said.
The cause of Goodwin's death has not yet been released.
