CARMEL, Maine — UPDATE: As of 2:20 p.m. Thursday, the Penobscot County Sheriff's Department said the 'shelter in place' is no longer in place. However, they would not provide any more information on the events that led to it.
The town of Carmel advises people who live on the west side of town or the east side of Etna along Route 2 to "lock all doors and windows and stay inside their homes."
Penobscot County Dispatch confirms that a "shelter in place" in that area is advised.
