The owner of a front-end loader that was stolen in Clifton is now offering a $5,000 reward, deputies say.

The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office said on Facebook Sunday an investigation revealed a front-end loader was driven through a gate and down Route 9 for several miles before it was hidden on another person's property "not associated with the theft."

The sheriff's office posted about the incident on Oct. 12, where the yellow 2004 Volvo L90E was described as being loaded onto a trailer and hauled away from Woodchuck Hill Road in Clifton.

The next day, the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office reported the owner of the front-end loader had located the machine by searching the area in an aircraft.

The owner is now offering a $5,000 reward for "the arrest and conviction of the people that stole this machine on 10/12/2024 from Clifton," according to the sheriff's office.

"The action was reckless and very dangerous. It put the public at risk and disrupted a business's ability to operate," the sheriff's office said.

Those with any information regarding the incident are asked to call 207-947-4585 or share information through the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office mobile app.
