ORONO, Maine — Orono police are asking for help in their investigation after a puppy was found dead in the Stillwater River.
The dog, which police believe to be a young male Golden Doodle, was found Thursday afternoon inside a backpack along with a concrete block near Webster Park, police said Friday in a Facebook post.
The dog was apparently not microchipped, and the cause of death has not yet been determined, police said. However, the post said a "forensic examination" was planned to determine its official cause of death.
The dog was wearing a white marbled collar with rose gold attachments when it was found, and the black backpack appeared to have a Planet Fitness logo on its front.
